Every single day animals arrive at the Ontario SPCA Lennox & Addington Animal Centre needing our help. We feed, exercise, bathe, socialize, play with and provide comfort to these abused, neglected and abandoned animals. We drive the wounded and sick to the veterinarian, change bandages, administer medications and monitor their recovery - with the goal of finding each animal a loving home.

A perfect match
Adoption Centre staff will help you through every step of finding your special friend - one that is just right for you. They will answer any questions, help you decide which pet is a good match for you, and be available for advice following your pet adoption. When you adopt your pet, not only do you get a wonderful friend, you give an animal an incredible gift, a second chance to find happiness and love. Plus you get great value, your pet will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated and you'll receive helpful literature on caring for your pet.

We invite you to drop by the shelter during adoption hours to view or visit the animals in our bright and welcoming Adoption Centre. All viewing areas are wheelchair accessible. You can also click on the links above to view our adoptable animals online.

A major gift to the Ontario SPCA can take many forms: from a one-time donation to a gift of stock; to an endowment; to a bequest. You can select the form that best suits your lifestyle and personal giving preferences.

Some people choose to give an outright gift of cash in one lump sum, while others choose to spread their donation out over time by pledging an amount and indicating the time frame in which they want to give. Major gifts can include tangible assets, like real estate, securities, and equipment. Anyone can make a major gift – individuals, families, foundations, and companies.

Major gifts are used to support our animal welfare work across the province and can be directed to your local community if you like. In some cases, a major gift to one of these areas may fund a specific project like a new facility or animal care centre.

However, many people choose to give to our Animal Urgent Care Fund - these are unrestricted gifts that allow us to respond quickly to emergency situations like a natural disaster, or even the investigation of a puppy mill where thousands of animals need to be treated and cared for until forever homes can be found.

To make a Major Gift, please use our donation form or contact our Development Manager, Leadership Giving at or 1-888-668-7722 ext. 309, to learn more about matching our unique giving opportunities with your desired level of charitable support.

See our Planned Giving page for more information on other types of major gift opportunities.

In Ontario, each of us is responsible for our own safety and survival during the first 72 hours of an emergency. The responsibility of caring for pets ultimately rests on the owner, including during an emergency. It’s important to develop and create a 72 hour Pet Emergency Survival Kit, much like we would for ourselves and our families.

Creating a Pet Emergency Survival Kit:

  • 72 hour food supply, including bowls and a can opener
  • 72 hour water supply
  • Blankets/towels
  • Toys
  • Leash, muzzle, harness
  • Litter pan, litter, plastic bags and scooper
  • Pet carrier to allow for easy transport
  • Medical records, Veterinarian’s name and contact number
  • Medications and a pet first aid kit
  • Current photo of your pet along with their name, address and brief description
  • Information on your pets feeding schedule, temperament/behavior, medical concerns
  • ID tags and Micro chip number
  • Flashlight
  • List of boarding facilities, hotels that can accommodate pets

You should check the Kit twice a year and updated it as necessary. Ensure that there is always fresh water and food, medication and restock any items that may have been used from it.

Remember your ability to care for your pet during a time of emergency will depend on how well you have prepared for it. Take the time to create a Pet Emergency Survival Kit; it may just very well save your pets life one day.
